The Bush Machine

Published by politicalanimal at 5:13 pm under Politics Edit This

Like the Kennedy dynasty, the House of Bush is a gigantic machine that constantly spits out future public leaders. Two members of this blueblood family have already made it to the White House, and there’s been some talk that a third member may be on his way there.

Here’s what Faux News has to say about the matter.

“Former President George H.W. Bush said his son Jeb should run for president and blasted the New York Times for its ‘grossly unfair’ criticism of another son, President George W. Bush.”

Just to get to Dubya for a sec, I will concede that his father has a good reason for defending him. After all, it’s the natural instinct for a parent to come to the aid of his or her child. As for all you other conservatives out there who still extol the Bush presidency, you have no excuse whatsoever.

According to Daddy B., Dubya’s little brother is “as qualified and as able as anyone I know in the political scene to be president.” “I’d like to see him run,” Bush said during an interview with “Faux News Sunday”. “I’d like to see him be president some day. As president, it’s about service, service for the greatest country on the face of the Earth and the honor that goes with it. I think Jeb fits that description.”

He added: “I mean, right now is probably a bad time, because we’ve got enough Bushes in there.”

Yeah, we’ve got one too many Bushies in office right now.

I have nothing against Jeb personally. I don’t know that much about him, except that he was governor of the  Sunshine State for eight years and, by all accounts, did his job pretty well. He certainly seems more intelligent than his big brother. That being said, aren’t people getting sick and tired of these political dynasties? The thought of another President Bush is as enticing as the thought of another President Clinton – which is to say not at all.

During the interview, George Bush, Sr. also suggested that Jeb “could take another job” while waiting for an opportunity to run for president. Apparently, Daddy and a bunch of other Republicans want Jeb to run for Mel Martinez’s Senate seat in 2010. Martinez has announced he will not run for re-election when his term ends in two years.

“If Jeb wants to run for the Senate from Florida, he ought to do it,” Bush said. “He’d be an outstanding senator. This is a guy that really has a feel for people, the issues in Florida and nationally. And his political days ought not to be over, says his old father.”

Well, at least Jeb is more qualified to serve in the Senate than a certain trust fund baby in New York. If the former governor manages to get into the world’s most deliberative body, let’s hope he stays there. We’ve already had two Bushes in the White House. This country doesn’t need a third.

If America votes a Bush to be our president for four more years…

Ugh I don’t even want to think about it.

I have to agree, while I am a very conservative republican I can not see the country coming out any farther ahead with another Bush boy in the oval office. We had our time under the son and it is now time for some young blood to get in there and bring about some real change in Washington. Real change, not political promises. I hope that Obama can really deliver on what he has led the population to believe that he can.
